This video has me helping a student with some errors on his Spur Gear Design assignment. Specifically there were some errors in calculations and how he sketched the pitch point circle and how that impacted the teeth on the gear wheel. Of course this all has to be precise for the spur and gear wheel to mesh.

This student was getting a mass, on his finished Hinge Plate, that was about 3 times more than it should have been. The Problem was that he used a Circular Feature Pattern using the Bodies selection instead of selecting features. This video shows how to fix that.

@@townnet You can add additional features too - such as more holes - that can be managed by configurations also. It all depends on your design intent. I hope this helps.

With that fancy setup they're using RediWhip?
How to clean the nozzles of a dry printer cartridge in a 3 seconds. You need to immerse the printer cartridge halfway, nozzles down, for 2 - 3 seconds in boiling water, pull it out and wipe it. Let me explain: boiling water will slightly soak the dried paint and the internal pressure will “break through” and wash the nozzles with ink that is inside. True, the cartridge will “lose” some ink. If it still won't print, it means there is no ink in it.
There may be more than one way to restore an inkjet cartridge. But the pressure from a vacuum may be quicker and easier. Thanks for sharing.

I was having a hard time getting the sketch picture to work in Solidworks, so I came here to YT looking for the right way to do it. I was amused to see that you have the same problems with it as I do. Maybe it's not me, it's the tool!
The Sketch Picture tool is not as intuitive as it could be. But it works good enough once you get the basics down. Thanks for sharing.

Just FYI, there is an error regarding the displacement in this video. 5.968 e-1 is not 6-inches, it is .6-inches. e-1, move the decimal place by one place to the left.
Your statement sounds right, a 6 inch displacement on such a part would be extraordinary. A little more than a half an inch displacement is more realistic and adds validity for applying Simulation Express on a simple assembly like this. Thanks for catching this and sharing. CSS
Why does solidworks only provide certain diametral pitch values?
Diametral pitch is determined by the designer of the gear pair - the designer will then apply those values in a program like SolidWorks for the virtual design.
@DesignInnovations Thanks for the reply, I'm trying to model a spur gear with a diametral pitch of 28, but 28 is not there?
@@richardlsmith9057 SolidWorks may have automated gear design, but you can try my manual design method using Excel and sketching as seen in this video. Give it a try and let me know how it works out.

The things to look at would include the depth of your well, and whether the contamination is from coliforms or from something else. I've heard of people having to pour a cup of bleach down their well every month in order to disinfect it (with no horses or other livestock nearby).
Thank you for the feedback. The horses have moved on and subsequent tests have shown no contamination (coliform specifically) since this incident. And this is the second well for the properties due to the same problem decades ago with the new one more than twice as deep (about 220 feet from about 100). We now test every 6 months and the well has been contamination free since this incident. As you imply - clean water can’t be taken for granted. CSS

WOW ! Thank you so much. Literally was printing blanks before used the vacuum on it and now its perfect again. I have definitely thrown out so many cartridges in the past years when I could have just spent 2 seconds fixing them. Thank you again !!

Hi, What to do when we see an error "The file is Corrupt and cannot be opened or repaired". 1. I am using SW 2020, not a licensed one 2. There was a power cut some time ago. (But back then i was working on some other files). Could any of the two be the reason for the corrupt files ? Please let me know if you have any solution or how to stop same problem in future.
Yikes, haven't seen that one in a while. We learn from things like this. Long ago I had gotten in the habit of saving any modifications to an existing file to a new file name usually changing the numerical value of the date. I usually precede the file name with six digits representing the date YYMMDD. So today would be 230216 followed by the file name. That way everything is incremental and can be sorted - making older files available if needed. And if you have a drawing or an assembly associated with a part file, need to make sure you open those up too before the name change. I don't know if I can help otherwise, good luck and let us know if you find a solution.

The reason I'm asking is I need several wheels rolling on a trackball that can go in any direction.
This demo shows how to apply a SolidWorks Gear Mate in a simple application. But applying this on a sphere gets more complicated (but not impossible). One thought - regarding a variable speed transmission - is to consider a wheel of a fixed diameter traveling up and down a cone (axially). And the cone can be simulated as a series of wheels of proportionally increasing or decreasing diameters. Conceivably this may be applied to a sphere too where the proportional element becomes variable. This gets complicated but may be approached through various steps. Hope this helps.
Interesting but what if you wanted the smaller wheel to ride on the face of the larger wheel, and what if the smaller wheel needed to vary speed depending on the distance from the center of the larger wheel? Kind of like a variable speed transmittion.
I have SolidWorks 2022. For this model, my mass is 497642.11. I follow in what you did but my mass is still heavy. Any suggestions?
Your mass appears off by a factor of about 30. I would suggest first looking at your units, making sure you have selected millimeter, gram, second. Also check the material you are using. If those don't work there is probably another posted video of this model that will give you the step-by-step approach on how to put it together.
Thank you for this one. I was having issues doing something similar with a spooler scroll shaft. This video fixed it perfectly. If anyone is having weird geometry issues post sweep cut... Change from minimize twist to "Specify Direction Vector" and select the cylindrical face the helix follows.
Yes, I think the water could be contaminated.
Thank you for the feedback. Since this incident of contamination we’ve learned a lot about well water dynamics. No matter how deep the well - and because of gravity - it is easier for the pump to draw water from above. Hopefully the journey is a long one providing an opportunity for any contaminated water to move down stream first or to cleanse along the way. CSS
